|September 15, 2015 - Back
This site was down for a while as I hadn't fixed some underlying PHP issues. But the site is back up now with new undeprecated code. Woohoo!
March 15, 2011 - Gandi.net Registar
I've added the information on what domains you can register at Gandi.net to the site, this might make it easier for some of you to register the domain you're looking for!
February 27, 2010 - Updated TLDs by Registrar
Guess there's been a bit of a shift in the world of TLDs. Seems like China is no longer allowing the big registrars to offer .cn domains. Well, that and more has been updated on behindtheURL.
July 25, 2009 - TLDs by Registrar
I have to remember that sometimes the best place to find new features for a site is within my own needs. I was once again exploring some new domain name ideas and I realized that behindtheURL was lacking a way to know which domains might be harder than others to register given that for the past few years I just use GoDaddy. So I have gone ahead and indicated which TLDs are offered for registration by various Registrars, I call it TLDs by Registar.
To start off, I have provided information for GoDaddy, Register.com and Registrars.com. These are all registrars I have used over the last 13 or so years, though some of them I have not used in quite a long time. So, in others words, I am saying I do not endorse any of them, though I use GoDaddy almost exclusively at the moment.
July 24, 2009 - Re-Introducing whatWEBserver?
Another part of this site that had been in hiatus, I've re-added whatWEBserver? a simple little tool which lets you enter a URL and see what web server it is running on.
July 23, 2009 - What It's All About
Sometimes About sections are the hardest ones to add. You don't always think anyone wants to know details behind the scenes, but oddly, they do.
So I have added an About section for behindtheURL which will give you the chance to know a little more about why the site exists.
July 21, 2009 - Re-Introducing TLD
It's one of those things you replace and then realize you didn't have to.
There was a section of behindtheURL called TLD which listed all of the different TLDs and had links to their official websites (where available). When I rebuilt the site, I included that information on the main of the site as a handy, one-page reference.
But as I was updating redirects to those who had bookmarks to the old pages, I realized why not just put those pages back up using my new system. So I have.
August 4, 2008 - A Little Better WHOIS
One of my older tools - BehindtheURL - offered you the chance to do a WHOIS search on a URL, but it was a little old and didn't allow you to search some TLDs.
So I've finally gotten around to updating it and it should be more useful. I've summarized the old guide to TLDs I had so that it's accessible right below the WHOIS search.
September 21, 2000 - Introducing BehindtheURL
I moved the WHOIS tools from The Firm List to a new domain, behindtheURL and I've added other tools and resources for finding out information about URLs & domain names.
June 27, 2000 - Updated WHOIS on Tools @ The Firm List
Long overdue, but I have updated the Whois tool. It now does searches over a very wide range of TLDs.
November 10, 1999 - Updated WHOIS on Tools @ The Firm List
I've upgraded the WHOIS tool to account for the fact that if you search Network Solution's Registry it will not tell you if it has been registered at another Registrar.
